Maximize Student Impact
LWEF strives to fund projects that benefit the greatest number of students. Grant proposals that impact multiple classrooms, grade levels, or entire campuses receive stronger consideration because they extend the reach of Foundation funding.
Be Mindful of Available Funding
Each year, the number of grant requests exceeds the funding available. While all applications are carefully reviewed, larger funding requests receive more extensive evaluation. Historically, well-prepared grant requests under $500 have had a very high rate of approval.
Collaborate When Possible
LWEF encourages applicants to partner with other funding sources, community organizations, businesses, or school resources. Demonstrating collaboration and shared support strengthens a grant application and helps maximize available resources.
Plan for Ongoing Costs
If your project includes a subscription or recurring expense, please explain how those costs will be covered after the initial grant period. LWEF funding is intended to launch innovative ideas, so sustainability is an important consideration.
Provide Product Information
If you are requesting specific products, equipment, or materials, include website links or product information whenever possible. All requested items are researched during the review process.
Include Detailed and Accurate Budget Information
A clear, itemized budget is one of the most important parts of your application. Please provide:
- A detailed breakdown of all requested expenses
- Current pricing for each item
- Vendor or website information whenever available
Applications supported by the rough cost research have a much greater chance of being funded. If the review committee determines that the requested amount exceeds the actual cost of the project, the award may be adjusted accordingly. Applications without sufficient pricing information or documentation may not be eligible for funding.
